The Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health - Colorado Chapter (Colorado Federation) is a family-driven and family-run non-profit organization that provides for the “Family Voice” in Colorado’s behavioral health care system through advocacy, leadership, technical assistance, and collaboration. The Colorado Federation was founded in 1993 as a result of a partnership between families of youth with mental health issues, the Mental Health Association of Colorado, and the Colorado Department of Mental Health’s Child and Adolescent Service System Program.

The Colorado Federation is a statewide organization with affiliate organizations in Denver, Jefferson, and Mesa Counties and affiliates under development in several other counties. The Colorado Federation also maintains strong ties to the National Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health. The primary activities of the Colorado Federation are to help families of children with mental health issues maneuver through the complicated behavioral health care system in Colorado by providing education, support, advocacy, and promotion of mental health needs of children and families.

The Colorado Federation has played a leadership and technical assistance role at state and local levels to promote the System of Care approach to providing family-driven, youth-guided care.
